Breast Cancer Screening Visit in Addison
Screening starts with a conversation. We review your risk, help you get the right imaging arranged, and make sure someone explains the results.
Medically reviewed by Charles Ortega, PA-C, MPAS · Last reviewed October 1, 2026 · Educational information, not medical advice. Innovare Tx does not perform mammograms.
What the visit covers
A breast health visit can stand alone or be part of your annual physical. It includes:
- Your personal and family history, on both sides of your family
- A conversation about your risk and whether standard screening fits you
- A plan for when to start and how often to screen, based on the published guidelines
- Help arranging a screening mammogram at an imaging center
- A referral for genetic counseling or to a breast specialist when your history calls for it
- A follow-up to go over your report in plain language
What we do not do
We do not perform mammograms, breast ultrasound, MRI, biopsies or genetic testing in our office, and we do not treat breast cancer. Those are done by imaging centers and breast specialists. Our role is to get you to the right one, at the right time, and to stay involved afterward.
If you have noticed a change
Tell us when you book. A lump, a skin or nipple change, or discharge is evaluated differently from routine screening, and usually means a diagnostic mammogram or an ultrasound instead of a screening one. We keep time for same-day visits, so call early in the day. See signs and symptoms.
Who you will see
Visits are with Charles Ortega, PA-C, MPAS, who has 27+ years of clinical experience in family practice and works under supervising physician Dr. Nathan V. Nguyen. Charles is fluent in English and Spanish. Atendemos a nuestros pacientes en español.
Because this is primary care, the same visit can cover the rest of your preventive care. See family practice.
What to bring
A little preparation makes the visit far more useful:
- What you know about cancer in your family: who, which cancer, and roughly what age
- Any earlier mammogram reports, especially one you have questions about
- The date of your last mammogram and where it was done
- Your insurance card and a list of your medications
Cost and insurance
We accept 200+ insurance plans, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Medicare and United Healthcare, and our team can verify your coverage before you come in. The mammogram itself is billed by the imaging center. See mammogram cost and insurance.
